mug: vessels and tea pot vines and yellow dots

This medium mug features archeological forms , a teapots, in blacks and browns and

The interior is glazed , copper blue, and the exterior is unglazed, polished porcelain. It feels a bit like a weathered stone--the porcelain is vitrified (sealed)  and it will not stain.

About 3.5 inches high (9cm), the medium mugs hold around 12 ounces (350ml).

I throw these mugs on the potters wheel and pull the handles. Then  I paint the outside with a black underglaze and etch/carve/scratch through with a variety of tools to add the details (this is called sgraffito). After a first (bisque) firing,  the mug is glazed inside with a colored glaze and refired.

You may wash them by hand or in the dishwasher.  If you drink a lot of tea, like I do, the inside will stain over time--but this is easily removed with an abrasive scrubbing (I use those dark green scouring pads commonly found in the grocery store--we call them "green scrubbies").
